May 27 2025 – The Sustainable Banking and Finance Network (SBFN) is pleased to welcome the Banks Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BABiH) as its newest member. Established in 2004, BABiH is a banking association representing 21 commercial and 2 development banks, committed to advance the country’s financial sector further in the path toward sustainable and responsible finance.
In 2023, BABiH partnered with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) ECA ESG Advisory Program to strengthen environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices within Bosnia and Herzegovina’s banking sector. This collaboration focused on developing comprehensive ESG guidelines designed to serve as practical tools for banks operating in BiH. These guidelines aim to enhance the governance of environmental and social risks, as well as improve the disclosure of ESG and financial information for investors and other stakeholders.
In August 2024, SBFN welcomed the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH) as member, recognizing its strong commitment to advancing sustainable finance policy and regulatory guidance, while actively fostering collaboration between public and private sector stakeholders. Together with BABiH’s role in mobilizing and representing the private banking sector, this dual membership creates a robust platform for stronger collaboration and public-private partnerships in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“It is both an honor and a great pleasure for the Association of Banks of Bosnia and Herzegovina to become a part of the SBFN. Joining this global community provides us with a valuable platform to exchange knowledge, access international best practices, and collaborate on advancing sustainable finance in our country.
As a member of SBFN, we are committed to supporting our banking sector in aligning with global sustainability standards, fostering responsible investment, and contributing to the broader transition toward a green and inclusive economy. We look forward to active engagement with SBFN members and to sharing our experiences while learning from others.” – Edis Ražanica, Director of the Association of Banks of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“SBFN and IFC welcome BABiH as its newest member. We appreciate BABiH’s commitment to sustainable finance and look forward to supporting its efforts in developing a national sustainable finance roadmap and framework,” shared Rong Zhang, SBFN Global Coordinator.
With both the central bank and the banking association now members of SBFN, IFC and the network are well positioned to leverage their unique value proposition and global experience to support public-private partnerships, promote knowledge exchange, and build coherent and inclusive sustainable finance frameworks in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
BABiH’s membership brings SBFN’s community to 98 members across 72 countries, further extending its global influence and reaffirming its central role in promoting sustainable finance worldwide.
