About This Working Group
The Data and Disclosure Working Group was established in 2022 to respond to the current global need for improved data and disclosure by the financial sector. Its goal is to support national sustainable finance ecosystems and enable regulators and supervisory agencies to better assess and manage environmental, social, and governance (ESG) risks and performance at both the market and institutional levels.
In June 2024, SBFN entered into a partnership with the IFRS Foundation to improve sustainability and climate reporting in emerging markets. This partnership aims to build capacity, deepen understanding of reporting standards and promote greater transparency and accountability. In this line, the Working Group launched a series of webinars co-hosted with the IFRS Foundation.
The Working Group has also initiated efforts to formalize common approaches to ESG and climate reporting, based on an extensive mapping of country-level practices across the SBFN community and alignment with international standards. This initiative will result in the development of practical guidance for regulators and industry associations on how to measure and monitor sustainable finance performance of the financial sector.
Main Objectives
- Develop common approaches: Identify emerging best practices and map current ESG and climate disclosure initiatives and requirements among SBFN members to inform the development of common approaches to measuring of sustainable finance performance.
- Integrate SBFN member perspectives into global trends: Identify and contribute the insights of SBFN members to international ESG and climate disclosure trends and initiatives relevant to their contexts.
- Strengthen data and disclosure capabilities: Provide practical guidance, toolkits, capacity-building programs, and knowledge-sharing activities to assist SBFN members in developing local ESG and climate disclosure frameworks and initiatives that foster sustainable finance ecosystems.
